Daily Dose of Sophie Facebook Application
Responsibilities
Visual Design, Web Development, Database Design
Overview
Daily Dose of Sophie is a Facebook Application that was created for Hangar 18 Creative Group. Sophie is the office-dog and mascot of the interactive department over at Hangar 18. The app was created in order to expand the presence of the company in social media. It displays a daily photo of the adorable Sophie for the viewing pleasure of Hangar 18 employees and fans. In order to give the app a consistent feel on Facebook, it was designed with similar styles and colours found elsewhere on the Facebook site. The app also echoes the clean and minimalist style associated with the Hangar 18 brand. Although the main page of the app only shows the current day's photo, users of the application can go to the Photo Archive page to view past daily photos in the form of a jQuery Lightbox gallery.

Darling Divine Blog
Responsibilities
Branding, Visual Design, Web Development
Overview
Darling Divine is a music and lifestyle blog developed for Wordpress. The client wanted a layout design that incorporated vintage elements while still being modern and current. This was achieved by using imagery of classic elements from music and film, such as the records, acoustic guitar, and film strip, for a vintage feel. Clean lines and bright colours were also used to keep the design contemporary. In order to allow the client to update and manage her own website and blog, Darling Divine was developed as a custom Wordpress theme. All elements on the site are completely dynamic and the entire site is manageable through Wordpress. This includes the Twitter feed and the Last.FM playlist featured in the sidebar of the blog.

The Web Designer's Companion
Responsibilities
Branding, Visual Design, Information Architecture, Web Development, Content Production, Database Design
Overview
The Web Designer's Companion (WebDC) was created as an ultimate resource index for web designers and developers. In order to add a level of interactivity to keep users interested, the ability to rate and comment on each resource was added. If a user thinks one of the websites sucks, they can let everyone know about it! By also allowing users to create a list of links to their favourite resources, WebDC became a "one-stop shop" for web people to find whatever they need to complete a project. Since pets are considered our "companions," WebDC has been branded with a cat theme throughout. There is a subtle image in the header and footer of a kitten lying on top of a computer. A pawprint can also be seen behind the logo of the site.

Big Heart Rescue Society
Responsibilities
Branding, Visual Design, Information Architecture, Usability Testing, Web Development
Overview
This project was a redesign exercise for the existing Big Heart Rescue Society website. Big Heart is a non-profit animal rescue organization. The original website has numerous usability issues: the homepage is cluttered and offers an overwhelming amount of content and images; the main navigation hosts over a dozen links, which further confuses things; the introductory statement about the society is at the very bottom of the homepage, making it initially unclear for users what the society is all about. These problems were solved in the redesign exercise by the creation of a minimalist design for Big Heart, utilizing plenty of white space and giving each page a clear focus. The homepage hosts a "Featured Pet" to put an emphasis on pet adoption, as this is extremely important to Big Heart. The mission statement and information about Big Heart are also immediately viewable on the homepage. The website's structure was reorganized and the main navigation trimmed down to a more concise 7 links.
Charlie Luscious
Responsibilities
Branding, Visual Design, Information Architecture
Overview
This website was designed as an exercise in vehicle branding. Charlie Luscious is a fictional car company that manufactures vehicles specifically for women. The website is sexy and feminine and focuses on the most important thing in a girl's life: friendship. The Charlie Luscious brand can be seen as trustworthy and dependable, just like a woman’s best girlfriend. The voice of the content is friendly and casual. The visual design of Charlie Luscious is smooth, shiny, and curvy, just like a hot car. This was contrasted with a serif font-face to add a level of elegance and class. Clean lines and borders on the main content area ensure that the content reads easily and is not overwhelmed by the design.

Study Smart
Responsibilities
Branding, Visual Design, Information Architecture, Web Development, Content Production
Overview
Study Smart is an online course that teaches students the best practices for studying and doing homework. The challenge in this project was to create a website that was organized and easy to learn from while also being visually interesting. Since studying can be a dry subject, I aimed to draw users in to the visual design of the site so that they could then gain an interest in the content. This design features plenty of bright colours and images to catch the user's eye. The corkboard collage style of the layout reinforces the academic theme of the site.
